Job Description
Youth Director
Introduction:
The Youth Director is a full time ministry position charged with the implementation of a philosophy of family ministry with emphasis on Junior and Senior High School youth. The goal for the Youth Director is to build and maintain a strong and robust, growing youth program at Aldersgate UMC.

- Has a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, leads a high moral life and is committed to continued personal growth in Christian faith within the main line tradition.
- A proven track record of excellence in Youth leadership experience;
- Passionately committed to ministry with youth and families;
- Exhibits gifts that will facilitate building a strong youth/adult leadership team for a vital, growing youth ministry.
Ø Exhibits strong skills in interpersonal relationships with both youth and families;
Ø Exhibits strong skills in oral and written communication;
Ø Exhibits excellent administrative skills and independent work habits;
Ø Exhibits strong team-work gifts to connect/work with church staff, the Youth/Adult Leadership Team, and volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Work with youth
- Communicate by word and example the need for a personal relationship with Christ, and lead our youth in ways that celebrate our United Methodist connections and help them grow in knowledge and love of God in Christ Jesus;
- Lead Junior and Senior High youth groups in developing and executing a program (Note distinction from providing a program to Junior and Senior High youth);
- Develop leadership with youth groups;
- Consistently make regular contact with youth (phone, letter, and personal visits);
- Publicize weekly/monthly calendar of events;
- Provide for fellowship opportunities;
- Facilitate integration of youth and youth program into the life of the church;
- Plan for and help lead mission and community service opportunities;
- Maintain up-to-date records on youth.
- Work with adults and parents
- Communicate regularly with parents;
- Maintain policies that support parents;
- Maintain church policies with regard to authorized and adequate supervision and parental consent; following to the “letter” our safe church policies.
- Involve parents and the congregation in the youth programs. Facilitate adult volunteers.
- Administrative and committee work
- Maintain posted office hours;
- Coordinate church camping ministry;
- Coordinate Confirmation class;
- Meet regularly with church staff;
- Meet regularly with the Aldersgate Leadership Council about youth related programs/visions and issues.
- Ensure that the calendar of youth events is coordinated with the overall church calendar;
- Meet regularly (approximately monthly) and coordinate program with YAM and YAL;
- Oversee the youth budget. Consult with YAM and Finance;
- Meet with the Pacific Northwest Conference United Methodist coordinator of youth and young adult ministries;
- Meet with the urban area United Methodist youth directors;
- Write a Youth News section for the church newsletter (The GPS);
- Pursue professional development through continuing education.
Accountability:
- The Youth Director is responsible to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and the senior pastor. The SPRC will coordinate regular evaluations based on the goals and objectives agreed upon with YAM.
