Vision Statement: To provide a direct and clear sign of God’s love through personal, regular contact with each individual and family in the Body of Christ at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
We believe
- Everyone needs pastoral care.
- No one in the Body of Christ should go unnoticed, uncared for or unloved.
- God has gifted many lay people among us with the essential qualities for pastoring.
- Equipping lay people for ministry is God’s plan for the pastoral care of God’s people.
Congregational Care Ministers extend the care of Jesus Christ far beyond what any one or even several ordained persons could possibly do.
Do you have these qualities?
· Empathy
· Warmth
· Genuineness
· Integrity
· Caring attitude
· Listening skills
· Availability
· Patience
· Encouraging spirit
Then God has already given you gifts to use in the pastoral care of others.
Congregational Care means~caring for another by giving one self in Christian love to a relationship in times of weakness and times of strength.
► If you believe you have the gifts and may have a calling to be a Congregational Care Minister pick up a registration form today at the Connections Table in the church entrance or at the office. This material will help answer questions about training, expectations and time commitment.
I give you a new commandment,
That you love one another just as I have loved you. John 13
PREPARATION:
- Training/Discernment Event. This training evening will help you discern whether you have the gifts, graces, call & time available to be a success as a CCMinister.
- Monthly CCM Meetings. These monthly meetings are used for on-going training and personal support (a place to share the challenges, needs and joys of your ministry). These monthly meetings are mandatory. No CCM goes without supervision, training and support on a regular basis.
- Special Education & Training Events. These are very occasional and will be scheduled in consultation with all CCM’s.
- CCM Log. Each CCM is required to keep a log of first visit and then on-going visitation/contacts.
MINISTRY JOB DESCRIPTION:
Each CCM is assigned after consultation with CCM leaders to 2 to 8 individuals or families. The description of a CCM takes the form of an acronym: PACE.
P~ Pray for the people assigned to you regularly.
A~ be available to help meet appropriate needs of those within your care.
C~ Contact those in your care on a regular basis. (A minimum of every 4-5 weeks)
E~ Provide a Christian example of a life of care and encouragement.
A CCM is not committing to teaching, disciplining or problem solving. You are committing to being a loving, listening presence.
Congregational Care means~caring for another by giving one self in Christian love to a relationship in times of weakness and times of strength.
But we were gentle among you,
like a nurse taking care of her children,
being so affectionately desirous of you,
we were ready to share with you not only the Gospel of God
but also ourselves
because you had become very dear to us.
